I worked with some of my classmates and designed a shell tube heat exchanger. This was a steady state analysis with assumed flow over a bank of tubes using the Zukauskas relation. The pressure drop and in turn power loss is found through the Darcy Weisbach equation. The heat transfer through the tube was calculated by first finding the Reynold's number then correlating this to Nusselt for flow over an array of tubes and then the convective heat transfer coefficient was calculated. The drawings and CAD were created in Catia.
